Career

Educational Excellence

Dr Ajmal Zubair graduated with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery from the University of Bristol in 2019. His early interest in surgery led him back to Bristol, where he completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Clinical Oral Surgery with Distinction in 2021, before undertaking an MSc in Oral Surgery at the University of Central Lancashire, graduating with Distinction in 2023.

His postgraduate education subsequently developed extensively into Dental Implantology, completing further postgraduate qualifications and advanced training in implant dentistry. This has been complemented by significant hands-on experience in implant surgery, full-arch rehabilitation, digital dentistry, bone augmentation and complex implant treatment.

His education has always followed his clinical interests: first developing a strong surgical foundation and subsequently applying those principles to increasingly complex implant rehabilitation.

Diverse Professional Experience

Ajmal's career has deliberately combined hospital surgery, NHS Oral Surgery, general dental practice and high-volume private implant dentistry.

His earlier appointments included working as a Dental Clinical Fellow for Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board, alongside general dental practice at Amlwch Dental Practice, before progressing within Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at the Royal Albert Edward Infirmary in Wigan. He was also recognised by NHS Wales as a Dentist with Enhanced Skills in Oral Surgery, undertaking referred surgical cases beyond the scope of routine primary care.

A particularly formative part of his implant career was his time with 21D, a high-volume, digitally driven full-arch implant provider. Working initially clinically and subsequently as Clinical Operations Lead, Ajmal gained exposure to implant dentistry at a scale rarely encountered in conventional practice.

During 2024 alone, the service treated approximately 1,409 full arches involving 5,636 implants, providing Ajmal with extensive exposure to the surgical, prosthetic and logistical challenges associated with immediate full-arch rehabilitation.

His subsequent work with Implantly and dedicated implant centres has allowed him to build further upon this experience across single implants, complex implant surgery and full-arch rehabilitation.

Current Role & Expertise

Today, Ajmal's clinical practice is centred around Dental Implantology, Oral Surgery and the management of complex or anxious patients.

He has accumulated experience across many hundreds of full-arch treatments, spanning both their surgical and prosthetic phases. This volume has provided exposure not simply to routine cases, but to the anatomical, surgical and restorative challenges that inevitably arise when treating complex patients at scale.

His implant practice encompasses single and multiple implants, immediate placement and loading, full-arch rehabilitation, guided surgery, bone grafting, GBR, sinus augmentation, block grafting and advanced implant surgery, including the use of pterygoid implants where conventional posterior anatomy presents limitations.

Ajmal has developed a particular interest in immediate full-arch treatment, where surgery, implant positioning, primary stability, soft-tissue management, occlusion and prosthetic design must all work together to achieve a predictable outcome.

Alongside implant dentistry, he retains extensive experience in Oral Surgery, including complex and impacted tooth removal, surgical extractions and management of challenging surgical cases, with IV sedation available where appropriate.

Patient Care Philosophy

Despite the increasingly technical nature of his work, Ajmal believes that complex treatment should be made simple for the person undergoing it.

Many of his patients are referred because their treatment is considered difficult, because they have significant dental anxiety, or because previous experiences have left them apprehensive about treatment. His background in Oral Surgery and IV sedation has therefore become an important complement to his implant practice.

His approach is based upon thorough assessment, honest discussion and meticulous planning. Patients should understand what their options are, why a particular treatment has been recommended, its limitations and what they can realistically expect afterwards.

Whether removing a difficult wisdom tooth, placing a single implant or undertaking a complete full-arch reconstruction, the same principle applies: the complexity belongs with the clinician, not the patient.

A Commitment To Excellence

Ajmal's career has progressed from general dentistry, through hospital and enhanced Oral Surgery, into high-volume and increasingly complex implant rehabilitation.

The considerable number of implant and full-arch cases he has been involved with has reinforced an important principle: experience is not simply about accumulating case numbers. It is about learning from variation, complications, difficult anatomy, different restorative demands and long-term outcomes.

Alongside his own clinical work, Ajmal has been involved in mentoring and supporting other dentists, particularly in Oral Surgery and Implant Dentistry, and remains committed to continued postgraduate education.

His aim is to continue refining the integration of surgery, prosthodontics and digital dentistry, particularly in complex and full-arch implant rehabilitation, while maintaining the straightforward and patient-centred approach that has underpinned his career from the beginning.

Digital Dentistry

A significant proportion of Ajmal's implant career has developed within fully digital treatment environments.
His experience encompasses CBCT interpretation, intraoral scanning, digital wax-ups, implant planning, 3D segmentation, prosthetically driven implant positioning, photogrammetry and static guided surgery. Importantly, he does not simply use digitally produced guides; he has experience taking cases through the digital workflow himself, including planning and producing surgical guides for implant treatment.
His experience at 21D was particularly influential in developing this approach, where high-volume full-arch treatment required close integration between diagnostics, surgery, digital planning, immediate loading and prosthetic delivery.
This combination of surgical experience and digital planning now forms a central part of his approach to implant dentistry: plan the final restoration first, then work backwards to determine the surgery required to achieve it.

The Clinics

Dr. Ajmal Zubair is currently treating patients from Amlwch Dental Practice, Longford Road Dental Practice and MCR Implant Centre.
The Implant Services in North Wales at both Amlwch Dental Practice and Longford Road Dental Practice are under the umbrella name of

MCR Implant Centre is a dedicated implant centre in Manchester focused exclusively on dental implantology, from single-tooth replacement through to complex full-arch rehabilitation. The centre combines advanced digital planning with contemporary surgical and restorative workflows, providing treatment including immediate implants, Same Day Smiles, bone and sinus grafting, and management of complex or failed implant cases. Ajmal works here as an Implant Surgeon, with a particular focus on advanced and full-arch implant treatment.

Amlwch Dental Practice is a long-established practice in Amlwch, North Anglesey, providing NHS, private and emergency dental care to the local community.
